Mr. DeGroot brought in his pet snakes to visit our classroom. We read nonfiction books about snakes to learn about them before he came, but we were really fascinated by the real thing!
The second graders each chose a saint to research. They wrote facts about the saint, created a saint shrine, and learned about asking saints to intercede for us and carry our prayers to Jesus for us. (They were especially excited about the battery operated candles inside their saint shrines.)
The first graders each chose a saint to research as well. They dressed up as their chosen saint and memorized facts about that saint to share with parishioners during Mass on All Saints Day.
We also celebrated with an All Saints Day party for grades K-5. Students played games like "Saint Walk," "Canonize the Saint," "Saint Bingo," and more!
St. Mary's students in kindergarten, first grade, and second grade went on a field trip to Wilke's Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch. The farmers took the children on a tractor and wagon ride through the woods and the cow barn to see all the animals. An animated pumpkin talked to the kids about how pumpkins grow. We used teamwork to find our way through a tricky corn maze. The students ate their lunches and played on the playground. Everyone picked a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch to take home. What a fun day!
