Our school was honored by the visit of three religious sisters from LaCrosse. Students were able to visit with them, ask questions, learn about their vocation, and pray together.
All the students and teachers celebrate All Souls Day with a prayer service. We remember and pray for loved ones who have gone to be with the Lord. We light candles as we pray for each of them.
In celebration of All Saints Day, each second grader chose a saint to research. They created saint shrines and wrote reports about their saints. They displayed them in church, then they took them on the road! They traveled to a local assisted living home to show their shrines to residents living there and to read their reports about the saints to them. The first graders also dressed up as their favorite saint.and shared facts about the saint in church and at the assisted living home.
We spend all year at St. Mary's School learning about the saints and talking about how we can follow their examples living lives of love for Christ and others. We learn to ask them to intercede to the Lord for us. But on All Saints Day we CELEBRATE their lives! We begin with Mass during which the first graders dress as a favorite saint and share facts about the saints with the congregation. Then grades K-5 all celebrate together with a party. Students go from classroom to classroom playing saint-themed games and winning fun prizes. Pictured is the Saint Walk game: students walk around a circle of saint pictures to music, and when the music stops one saint is chosen. Students name the saint by listening to clues about the saint, then the person standing by that saint wins a cupcake! |
