The second graders explored plants and flowers in a STEAM activity today. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. STEAM lessons have two or more of these standards integrated together. We have been learning all about plants in science class. Students analyzed plants today and talked about their stems, leaves, and flowers, making inferences about the environment each plant grows in. We learned about symmetry in math class, and used the plants to create symmetrical displays. Of course art was incorporated as the students creatively used color and design to make some beautiful designs! They had a blast, and they were so cooperative in sharing the plants as well as complimentary as they admired one another's designs, shared ideas, and tried out new ones.
